PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Duncan Architects designed the new 2,976 GSF Mireles Autism and Behavioral Center in McAllen, Texas to advance the organization’s mission of providing high-quality, individualized care for children with autism and other developmental differences. The clinic supports therapeutic and behavioral goals with dedicated spaces for ABA therapy, daily living skills, social skills development, and family consultation.

Its layout includes a welcoming lobby and lounge, multiple therapy and consultation rooms, a gym and open activity areas for group interaction, and a staff kitchen—all arranged for smooth circulation and clear wayfinding. Special attention was given to the sensory needs of neurodiverse populations through calming finishes, natural light, acoustical control, and optional sensory elements. Fully accessible restrooms, ADA-compliant signage, and barrier-free paths ensure inclusivity and dignity for all users.

Every design decision—from furniture layouts to lighting, life-safety systems, and flexible therapy rooms—was guided by the Center’s goal of creating a safe, supportive environment that empowers clients and gives clinicians efficient, comfortable spaces to deliver care.
